today We’re gonna review The Bowers and Wilkins UK 608 subwoofer right here. I actually won this in a raffle, so I didn’t exactly buy it with my own cold hard cash. I did throw $20 at the raffle, but I’ve had this for about a year now and I’ve really been enjoying the hell out of it. So I figured why not make a review It’s got 200 watts peak its height width and depth are 11 by 10 by 12 and it weighs about 20 pounds. It does come in black or white.

The Black Comes With A Black

grille and the white one comes with a gray grille. It’s $500 UK and it is there I guess lowest model in their range of subwoofers above this they have the UK 610 above that is the UK 610 UK and then. I believe they have about four more. I would absolutely love to get my hands on some of their higher-end models, but perhaps for another review, so we’re gonna do kind of the typical format tell you the pros cons listening impressions and we’re gonna wrap it up so you know what before we get into that I want to take you through a few of its features Because this is actually really important because this is a little bit different than most subwoofers you’re gonna find at this price point so I’ll show you the back of this thing feel free to look up some pictures on Google if you want to see more of that pop. Just So I Dont Damage It So On

the front. We have a paper cone it’s stiff the rubber surround is really beefy. Really stiff as well, Usually you’re not gonna see this kind of build quality out of subwoofer On this price point. Most subwoofers on the five hundred dollar and below like when you press this area it’s just super soft it caves in this is nice and stiff honestly. I really appreciated that I can’t tell if this is a vinyl finish or a wood veneer.

Im Gonna Go Ahead And Assume Its Vinyl

because you’d be hard-pressed to find a wood veneer on a five hundred dollar subwoofer either way. It is a really good-looking finish and going to the back. What you have is a on auto and standby. I leave my subs in Auto. You have volume control for your UK inputs.

You Have A Separate Volume Control.

If you choose to use the high level inputs. High level inputs are going to be for you guys. Have pre-outs most commonly I see that on like an integrated Tube, preamplifier, sorry integrated tube amplifier or preamplifiers allow them. Don’t have pre-outs if they’re like tube type and stuff like that You have your low pass frequency, which you find on a lot of subwoofers, but on this one it’s quite different most subwoofers.

In This Price Point Youre Gonna See

about 50 Hertz to like a hundred and something Hertz adjustment right it’s pretty normal isn’t it on this one is 8 inch and it’s all has 200 watts peak, but you have 25 Hertz 240 Hertz. When I saw that I thought there’s no way This has to be marketing. There’s no way this little guy can give you 25 Hertz of bass bars and Wilkins is just trying to boast their products. So you So you best believe the first thing I did when I took this out of the box and saw that is turn that low-pass all the way down and play a song and see if it could do it and lo and behold it can actually do it so it’s not marketing it’s not UK that really really surprised me 25 Hertz is very very low. You’re not gonna find many subs at this price point which is as entry-level really as it gets any subwoofer under $500.

In My Opinion, Its Not Worth Listening To

and I would rather just not even have a subwoofer $500 is the least I would spend on the subwoofer personally, so let me go back to the back because we have more things here because they actually were very gracious. In the engineering of this unit, they gave us a ton of options. You own this unit or you’re considering buying this unit check out the instruction manual online and read those few pages as it relates to either Home audio, I’m Sorry home theater or home stereo. You definitely want to use these options and set this up correctly because it will really really reward you when setup correctly, but as with anything with a lot of options and settings. If you set them up incorrectly, you will be disappointed with any product that gives you a lot of options right.

So The Next Option Is The

low-pass filter. You could choose to bypass it entirely if of an UK. For example, and your UK has a built in the subwoofer crossover and you want all of that adjustment to happen from your UK. Instead of the back panel. You can use the bypass most of us audio guys or audiophile guys.

Just Gonna Have It On Bass Extension Options

three of them at the $500 price point Are you kidding me? I have never seen bass roll-off at this price point. You have a B and C positions and a is gonna give you the least amount of roll-off. I don’t think there’s any actually B is gonna give you a little bit of roll-off and C is gonna give you the most roll-off. So if you listen to music and really really really loud volumes and you’re worried this might run out of steam. For example, you might want to set it in the B or C position or if you have a really really big room and for some reason, you thought an 8–inch subwoofer was going to be enough.

You Probably Will Listen To This In

the B or C position. If you’re like me and you’re listening. is 10 by 12 for me and you listen to music around 75 to 80 decibels like I do you could probably just leave it in the a position and enjoy all that bass extension that this thing has to offer but wait there’s more. You also have UK options A and B UK settings and what those are for this is quite interesting and then again something you just don’t see at this price point or even at any price point on a lot of subwoofers honestly I’ve actually never seen this before the two options are for placement. So if you can put this in ideal room placement position you’re just gonna leave it in UK a setting.

If You Cannot Put This In Ideal Placement

for one reason or another. Whether your wife says no honey. It looks ugly there or you have a media console that’s. oddly shaped or your room is oddly shaped? Then you just need to put your subwoofer in a position that’s just gonna sound terrible The B position on the UK fixes that I tried it. It actually works.

I Have No Idea What They Do Internally

to make that happen. But it is the coolest thing in the world Because I know a lot of people that just like I have a buddy. He has to have a subwoofer next to his couch in the middle of his room and it sounds terrible it’s it’s a it’s not a Bowers and Wilkins. So he doesn’t have that option if he did have that option it would sound so much better so that’s really cool. Also I was able to have this in the ideal placement for which in my room is going to be just slightly off-center on the front.

On The Back We Also Have A Phase

0 or 180 I left it in zero. We have our UK line level inputs, high level inputs, C7 power cable adapter and the fuse so that is going to round out all the options on the back okay, so pros sound quality is really really really good Spoiler Alert we’re gonna get into that a little bit more later though the size I love it it’s small it’s cute. It puts out a ton of bass. I absolutely love smaller than usual versions of things I don’t know why I mean it’s like these little speakers here they’re like small and perform really well. I just really like that build quality is really good cons.

I Think Itd Be Cool To Add 50

watts more but again they have like so many subwoofers above this one this is their cheapest one. So it’s I feel kind of bad, saying I wish I had 50 watts more you know what I mean because they have that option in other models essentially, there are no cons. The only way I could think there could be a con is if you’re not the right buyer for this subwoofer. So let me get into who this subwoofer is for and who it’s not a lot of buyers for the $500 category are most likely gonna want as much base quantity as possible for their dollar that’s not what this is for if you want as much base quantity as possible for your dollar. I would look at something like UK UK 1000 it’s $500 10-inch ported 300 watts UK.

Its Gonna Be Crazy Crazy Output Now If

you’re the other kind of buyer who you know you’re on a $500 budget maybe you wish you. spend a little bit more but hey you got to send the kids to college and you know the budgets just not there for one reason or another, But you’re a sound quality guy. You want the the tones and the bass to sound different You don’t want them to all sound the same right and you want that good integration and things like that and you don’t listen out of wild volumes above 80 decibels necessarily then you’re gonna absolutely love this thing. I don’t think there are many subwoofers in this price point that sound this good honestly if you’re a sound quality guy and you’re on a tight budget.

You Really Owe It To Yourself To Try

to check one of these out Yeah there are no cons really there just isn’t I actually did an earlier take of this video and during the cons I just. started talking about more pros and I realized I had jabbed on for like five minutes about more pros and I sounded like an idiot, so I did another take sound impressions so this thing digs deep as I mentioned earlier. It has that option to go down to 25 Hertz and it really does I have it set up right around. I want to say 45 is where I have it and the volume is at about one third and that gave me just perfect integration, which is the next sound characteristic.

I Listed It Integrates So Well

one set up correctly and I use the most bass guy speakers. I had to test this thing out so that I could really really hear the subwoofer because if I don’t use really based shy speakers if I use speakers that have a lot of bass what’s gonna end up. Happening is the bass that comes from an electric guitar, for example, or a bass guitar or like drums is gonna be more produced by the speakers and that’s what I’ll be hearing and I have a lot of speakers that produce great bass for those regions.
