boy high-five Vega back again and this time we’re here to test the Sony UK 80 head unit. This thing is rated 100 watts by four at 4 ohms Max power 45 watts by 4 UK. But the funny thing about this thing is you can bridge it to a subwoofer. You can do four channels on the front too so that means you can run front and rear on the front two channels. You can run a subwoofer on the rear channel and it says it’ll handle down to two own impedance.

book for it so let’s see what this thing actually does and then we’ll hook it up the speakers and see what it actually sounds. Lets Get This Thing Out Of The
box and we’ll kind of go over the features as we unbox it. So it is rated max power 100 watts by 4. It’s actually 45 watts by 4 UK so that’s more realistic rating. It is a digital media player, meaning it does not have UK it’s only UK bluetooth that sort of thing. I think I believe it does have an auxilary outside of that what makes this special.
I Mean It Basically Has The
same features as the UK UK as far as network mode it’s got most of those features it’s got 5 volt pre outs it doesn’t really give. you a rating for the subwoofer whether it’s more or less or even exactly the same and the way you hook up the subwoofer on the third channel is shown in this diagram. It’s not immediately clear in the instructions or on the website, but the way you do it is you select the impedance before the units on in the setup menu and then you go in to audio. Once it’s on and you go to subwoofer direct and you select there and once she figured out it’s not too bad at all, but it’s a little bit convoluted okay. I know you are ready to see what kind of power.

by 4 we’re going to use a 1 kilohertz track. Let’s see what kind of power we actually get out of this. I do want to note that I am driving all. channels it’s hooked up the sub out is hooked up to the third channel and both front channels are hooked up so all channels are driven. He blew a fuse doing this test, but we got 55 watts.

We Pulled About 25 Amps At 14 Point
4 volts. We’re going to the third channel. The 4 Ohms subchannel test we’re going to use a 40 Hertz track. Let’s see if we get any difference in power. This time I went ahead and put a bigger fuse in just in case we did get almost the exact same results 56 watts pulled 12 amps, and it was about 32% efficient.
We Did Gain We Got 88 Watts At
14 point 4 volts. We pulled around 17 amps 100 watts. Basically, if you want to get down to it that’s pretty decent power for a subwoofer in this type of setup where you’re only using a head unit. In my opinion that’s it that’s my review of the Sony UK G S80 head unit. It retails for around a hundred and ninety-nine dollars.
Its An Excellent Value In My
opinion. You essentially get almost all the features you get with a UK 80 at $199 with a very powerful built-in so if you’re looking for something to run your whole system you don’t want to add amps I wouldn’t hesitate to use this the sub plays pretty well off the third channel and they didn’t give us a rating so I just assume that this is the power that you’re gonna get is basically the 45 watts by four and whether you’re using a lot sub or you know. of us might expect it to be bridged more power and it certainly wasn’t I tried it several different ways. According to the manual, I didn’t want to waste your time showing all that but basically. I got the same results and when I ran two ohm stereo on the front channels I got the same 88 watts so I don’t want to waste your time with that I figured.
Id Just Go Ahead And Tell You
outside of that I think that it sounds pretty good and it sounds better than some of the cheap budget amps that I’ve tested so it’s you know it’s a solid performer as far as sound in my opinion on the subwoofer and on the front speakers so if you’re checking this out and you’re thinking about this head unit. I mean go ahead and pull the trigger if it’s something that’s going. to fit into to what you want to do it?’s certainly a solid unit and I think it’s pretty nice. One of the downsides that I will say is that being a digital media unit. You expect it to be a little bit shorter and it is not as a fooled in size and I’m assuming that’s because of the built in amp they needed that extra room so that’s the one downside.

than that you know I think everything else is pretty solid.
